Future Directions Launch Award
Before the Forum, a committee of internationally recognized scientists selects early career scientists who are presenting their research at the Forum to receive the Future Directions Launch Award. The Future Directions Launch Award serves as a capstone to the academic training of its recipients—a signal to the field and larger public that they are ready to enter academia and begin independent research careers. Applications to this award must be early career scientists, namely trainees in degree-granting programs, post-doctoral training, or fellowship programs who WILL NOT be placed in a permanent, full-time academic position by Fall 2024. |
Future Directions Fellows Program
This program offers a select group of attendees presenting their research at the Forum access to: Funding to offset costs to attend the Forum, including travel, registration, and lodging. Pre-Forum workshop with the Program Chair on leveraging storytelling tools when presenting your work. Priority access at the Forum to our tailored consultations, where attendees receive personalized advice on ongoing projects, manuscripts, grant applications, and graduate school applications. |

Abstract REview Process
With the COVID-19 pandemic, we have all encountered situations where data collection is not nearly as far along as we would have hoped. We at the Forum wish to take this reality of mental health research into account in our review processes. Thus, we allow for abstracts that describe work in such a way that they articulate discernable findings,
even if the actual project has yet to be fully completed (i.e., you can present data for a project with ongoing data collection). We only accept abstracts that report findings from empirical work (e.g., experiments, studies leveraging qualitative approaches, controlled trials, archival database studies, psychometric studies, controlled observations, field studies, and meta-analytic reviews).
At each Forum, four leaders in mental health research give addresses on innovative areas of research. Thus, we will be especially interested in abstracts that report research in these areas (i.e., for 2023: ADHD, suicide, child maltreatment, and autism). However, we welcome abstracts on all research relevant to mental health, including work across the lifespan (e.g., young children, adolescents, adults)!
